Each year, we send out the following reminder.  So, this year, we’ll keep it short and simple.
School’s Out + Teenage and Pre-Teen Boredom + Lack of Supervision = Potential Increase in Crime
A couple of reports have already come in of children going through mailboxes (which is a federal offense) and a lot of on-street gathering by young people who seem to have little intention of getting out of the way of passing motorists.
If you see something fishy, call TPD and/or the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
PLEASE NOTE that there is a new non-emergency phone number.  It is 606-5800.  If it is an emergency, continue to call 911.
You will also probably witness young people staying up and out well beyond normal bed times.  If this becomes a nuisance, call the numbers above.  If you are the parent or guardian of these children, please remind then that (unfortunately) most of us don’t get a summer break.  So, we still have to get up and go to work the next day and sleep is pretty important.
Here are some additional helpful hints to protect your property:
  • Be sure to lock and deadbolt all doors
  • Secure windows that might be easily  pried open
  • Set door and window alarms
  • Remove all valuables from your car and lock its doors and windows
  • Do not leave items you want to keep unsecured on your lawn, porch, etc.

Take care.
