About

Seminole Manor is a southside Tallahassee neighborhood with a core group of folks dedicated to making the world — particularly our little corner of it — better. As a neighborhood that has existed since the 1950s, there’s a lot of rich history and many stories to tell. This blog is a forum to address issues of safety, environmental education, habitat protection, affordable housing, property values, diversity, and community.

    Hi,

We just moved into the neighborhood on Cates Ave.; still in the process actually. Just to introduce ourselves, our names are Mike and Katie.

It seems as though Seminole Manor is very active and involved as a neigborhood community. I like the community garden and feel that it is good to see people proactively doing something.

Anyway, I wanted to provide information on the City of Tallahassee Neighborhood Challenge:

Tallahassee’s Council of Neighborhood Associations (“CONA”), together with the City of Tallahassee, is challenging neighborhoods to reduce energy consumption and associated greenhouse gases by signing up for the Tallahassee Energy Challenge! Anyone in Leon County can participate. The current website for the challenge allows people to sign up (http://www.tallyenergychallenge.com/), and as I understand it, they are planning to add more information on that page in the coming weeks. The deadline for signing up is April 15.

I also have hardcopies of some informational materials: the individual support form, organizational support form, neighborhood leadership support form, and sample article about the initiative. I will forward them to smna2007 from my work email.

Additionally, there is some great information here, particularly the Energy Efficiency and Money Saving Programs:

Also, there is an upcoming cash for trash Saturday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m where residents can receive compact fluorescent light bulbs free:
    http://www.talgov.com/you/solid/cash.cfm

    That’s about it for me.

    Sincerely,
    Mike (& Katie)

    Hi Mike and Katie,
Great to have you in the neighborhood! Glad to know we share some common interests.

Stay tuned to the blog for more info about the Energy Challenge. Let’s see how many neighborhood folks we can get involved. Not only will you find yourself saving money, perhaps a little neighborly competition will spur you on. Anyone interested?
